What is Reiki?

Reiki was once a lost ancient Tibetan hands-on healing art rediscovered in the late 1800’s by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui, a Christian priest of a small university in Kyoto, Japan, was asked by his astute students if he believed in Christ’s miracles. When he answered that he did, they asked to be shown the method Jesus used to heal.

The idea of finding such a method intrigued him, and sent him on a quest which took him around the world and ended in Tibet. There in ancient Sanskrit writings he found his answer, but did not know how to use it.

He returned to Japan and was told by the abbot of a monastery to go to the holy mountain near Kyoto where he was to fast and meditate for 21 days. During this time he had a mystical experience which revealed the answers to him. He left the mountain and immediately began using the healing energy.

During his lifetime he trained many others and Usui Reiki spread rapidly around the world and is still being used by Reiki practitioners today. The training consists of learning to balance the body’s natural energy field (biofield) by applying light touch at the major energy meridians. By unblocking and restoring the energy system to its normal state, a Reiki treatment creates deep relaxation, health and well-being on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
