Hypnosis… A Heightened State of Awareness

“Knowledge Is The Spark That Ignites Our Growth” Jean Summit-Riker

With that in mind, let us explore the question of …

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be described in many ways. I believe the easiest to understand is that hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation that allows the subconscious mind to accept positive, new ideas.

The word hypnosis comes from the Greek word hypnos meaning sleep, but hypnosis is not a state of sleep.  Rather, it is a heightened state of awareness with the participant being fully alert and responsive.

Hypnosis is not a new phenomenon. It dates back to ancient civilizations.  Hindu Sanskrit writings as well as Greek and Egyptian drawings tell of sleep temples where sick and troubled people were taken to be cured by the temple priest using hypnosis.

Hypnosis Is A Natural State…

Very much like the daydream state we experience every day just as we are about to fall asleep and immediately before becoming fully awake.

We have all been engrossed in a movie and cheered, or cried believing what was happening at the moment to be real?  Who hasn’t driven a car, gotten to their destination, and recognized they seemed to have been in a daydream like state?  While in that state you were fully aware, in complete control and experiencing hypnosis.

Let’s take a look at a few of the most frequently asked questions.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is your gateway to change.  It is the fastest and easiest way to create lasting not temporary change.

Everything we experience in life is stored in the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is resistant to change because the beliefs, ideas and patterns that have been programmed from the time of our birth into the subconscious continue to be repeated. Willpower alone cannot change these unwanted patterns, but hypnosis can.

Through the use of hypnosis new, positive suggestions can replace old beliefs and patterns and make it easy to create lasting change.

Does The Hypnotist Have Control Over Me?

Unfortunately, movies and television have created an image of hypnosis that just is not true.  The most important thing to know is that–all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.  The hypnotist is just the person who helps guide you along the path.  You are in complete control and would never do anything you did not want to do.  Remember you are fully aware and, at any time for any reason, can end the hypnotic state just by opening your eyes.

Who Can Be Hypnotized?

Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be hypnotized.

How Do I Know I Will I Be Able To Come Out Of Hypnosis?

While hypnosis is a natural state, it cannot be sustained on its own. It must be maintained through focus and concentration.  Once the focus is broken, the hypnotic state ends and you would simply open your eyes feeling fully alert.

Visualization and Guided Imagery

By using visualization and guided imagery along with hypnosis, my clients are able to explore their genius potential. I teach them how to stimulate their imagination, create positive images and “preview” the changes they choose.  They see themselves in a whole new way
