December 23–Resolutions or Results?  (Part 6 – Failure Is Not An Option!

The last ingredient we need to add to our dream/goal accomplishing recipe is the one that brings all of the others together.  No matter how things may appear, resolve that failure is not an option and never quit.

Every Time You Turn On A Light Think Of This…

Most of us are familiar with Thomas Edison as the inventor of the electric light bulb.  The story goes that a young reporter once asked Edison if he felt like a failure and why hadn’t he given up on his quest to invent the light bulb.  What appeared to be failure to others was not Edison’s reality.  His response, “Young man, why would I feel like a failure? And why would I ever give up? I now know definitively over 9,000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work. Success is almost in my grasp.” Today, after over 10,000 attempts, we light our world with Edison’s invention.  Edison’s greatest success was his ability to reframe his thinking.

A Mountain or a Speed Bump?  You Choose.

At age 67 most of his life’s work went up in smoke because of a fire that destroyed his laboratory.  Although he was no longer a young man, and had little insurance, his attitude was not one of failure.  Instead he said, “There is great value in disaster.  All our mistakes are burned up.  Thank God we can start new.”  Three weeks after that he invented the phonograph.

While I taught “Recipe for Reading” to children experiencing reading problems, I had a “suggested reading” list that I asked parents to read to their children.  Edison’s story was on that list.

Don’t Make Excuses!

As a young child Edison was partially deaf and sent home from school one day with a note from his teacher that read, “Your Tommy is too stupid to learn, get him out of the school.”  Fortunately, Tommy had a mother who didn’t agree and she answered, “My Tommy is not too stupid to learn, I will teach him myself”.

When You Think About Gving Up,  Consider This…

Edison did not let physical challenges, lack of formal education, money, or age stand in his way.  Keep this quote from Edison with you and read it often, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

Remember:  Failure is not an option!

December 22–Resolutions or Results?  (Part 5 – Who’s Watching Your Back?)

Some would disagree that today’s subject is a step to helping you reach your goal.  I believe it is an essential step.  The term that most people use is having an accountability partner.  I prefer “wingman.”  For those of you who have not seen “Top Gun” Wikipedia.Org defines a wingman as “a pilot who supports another in a potentially dangerous flying environment. Wingman was originally a term referring to the plane flying beside and slightly behind the lead plane in an aircraft formation.”

I like the term “wingman” better than accountability partner because I believe a “wingman” is more than someone who makes you accountable.  It’s someone who is always there watching out for your back, who helps you move forward, reminds you when you are in a hold or a stall pattern and who will tell you things you may not want to hear, but you need to hear.  A “wingman” is someone who really cares about you and wants you to succeed.

Turning a Dream Into Reality

It takes commitment and determination to turn a dream into reality.  Knowing that you have someone to help makes the process much easier.  My clients know that I am both their life coach and their wingman.  I help them decide what they want, create a clear vision of it, eliminate the things that are stopping them from moving forward and then teach them how to focus their attention on becoming a vibrational match to it.  They know that I will cheer them along when they are moving in the direction of their desires and hold them accountable when they are not.

Who Is Your Wingman?

It is important to have someone you can trust and rely on.  Ask a special friend to help you or work with a life coach; often it is the difference between success and failure.  I know who my “wingman” is.  Do you know yours?

December 21–Resolutions or Results?  (Part 4 – Take Action)

Here we are only three days away from Christmas Eve.  After working all day and being up until 1 pm last night wrapping gifts, I could have easily stayed in bed passed 6:30 and let today’s blog slip by unwritten.

I thought back to the end of November this morning and remembered when I first set this goal.  At that time writing a blog for 24 days seemed a challenge, but definitely doable.  As I continued to move forward, I realized that in order for me to succeed I had to use each goal-setting step I was going over with you.  While I knew what I wanted, when I wanted it by and believed I could do it, I still had obstacles to face along the way and had to take action each day to accomplish my goal.

Let’s Talk About Taking Action

Many of us, myself included, become overwhelmed when we flood our minds with what seems like an impossible “to do” list.  The best way I have found to overcome that problem is to break what I have to do into smaller, manageable parts and focus on only that part.  Once that is completed, I move to the next thing I have to do.

The Twenty-Minute a Day Rule

When I was writing my book and the complications of daily life made it difficult to make time, I followed the twenty-minute a day rule.  I made sure to spend twenty minutes writing, just as I am doing now with my blog.  Although it may not seem like a lot, it adds up to over two hours at the end of the week.   Once I cleared the clutter from my mind and stopped procrastinating, every task became easier and often time seemed to expand and become more available.

If You Really Want Your Dream/Goal to Become a Reality…

You need to take action every day.  Consider what things you can do, stop procrastinating, and set a block of time aside.  Success motivates and moves you forward.  Do something each day and pay attention to what you have accomplished, not what you haven’t achieved yet.  The Law of Attraction will align you with the frequency of your accomplishments and you’ll begin to see more coming into your life.
